Geocaching in Tucson : my 100th find! Cocoon, a metal sculpture
GC751AJ. My 100th cache found! Yay! I actually did this on December 30th but haven’t kept up on my posts. Was a tad busy at the end of December but I still found time to go geocaching! Tammy convinced me because I was so close to 100!
I love geocaches near art. A lot of times they are near one that I wouldn’t have seen otherwise. This one is out on Houghton and I don’t come out here much — well, lately tammy_b and I have been coming out here because people have been popping up a whole bunch of new caches out here.
Cocoon was created by Joe O’Connell, Nina Borgia-Aberle, and Blessing Hancock in 2014. This what they wrote about their sculpture:
“Cocoon is a sculpture that is meant to be experienced, not just observed. We would like you to feel a sense of rebirth and transformation as you leave the open landscape, move through the cocoon and emerge at the other end.”
As you walk through it, Tucson’s northern moutains are framed by the entrance. Pretty cool, right?

Very cool find and congrats on 100! I’d still be hunting for my first.
Great photos of this art! I have seen lots of metal art around Oro Valley and Tucson but this is one of my favorites. Glad it was your 100th!
Looks like a big tumbleweed!
Mary,
WOW, that’s interesting! Congrats on the milestone! 🙂
